Hortobágy National Park

UNESCO World Heritage site

Hortobágy

Hungary's first National Park became part of the UNESCO World Heritage as the unrivalled example of the harmonic symbiosis of man and nature.
Hortobágy is the sole huge continuous steppe of Middle Europe. It is one of the most important tourist locations with its unbroken horizon, unique flora and fauna, growing animal stock, strengthening herdsmen community and rich cultural traditions.
Thanks to the constitution of new infrastructure for ecotourism, Hortobágy offers brand new programmes for the visitors to experience the natural wealth of the Puszta, the life of the herdsmen and the traditions of the local craftsman.
Traditional events (the Bridge Fair and the National Herdsmen Competition) are still visited by tens of thousands of people. Visitors arriving to the Puszta are awaited by programmes of high standard, which offer them good opportunities for spending their time.
